Work is underway to build the first new grammar school in KEY FACTS England for 50 years. The Sevenoaks Grammar School is a £40m project that is set to complete later on this year.

Education secretary Nick Morgan last year gave the green light for the annexe to be built at Sevenoaks, sponsored by the Weald of Kent girls grammar school. It follows a long-running campaign to provide selective places in the town, launched by parents who said pupils had to travel long distances to take up grammar school places.

The scheme will see the construction of a 6th form annexe known as Sevenoaks Grammar Annexe. Main works include associated access along with car parking, bus zones and multi use games areas.

The construction firm Willmott Dixon are the main contractors on site and the project is estimated to cost £40m. The completion date for the annexe is set at September of this year (2017).
