Brymec Launches EPDs Across Six Core Ranges

As sustainability considerations continue to influence specification and procurement decisions, Brymec is pleased to announce the Launch of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) across six of its core ranges.  

Available through the Brymec Technical Resource Library, the EPDs cover Cast Iron Drainage, VOX Acoustic Drainage, HDPE Drainage, Multi-layer Press-fit, Copper Press-fit, and End Feed & Braze.  

Developed in accordance with EN 15804+A2 and ISEO 14025, the EPDs provide independently verified environmental data, offering greater transparency into the environmental impact of products throughout their lifecycle.  

This marks an important step in expanding the technical information available to consultants and contractors, with additional EPDs planned across further Brymec ranges in the future. 

How do EPDs Differ from a TM65 Assessment?

While both Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and TM65 assessments are used to understand the environmental impact of construction products, they serve different purposes. 

TM65, developed by CIBSE, is a methodology used to estimate embodied carbon where verified environmental data is not available. It is often used as an interim solution, helping project teams assess products that do not yet have an EPD. 

An Environmental Product Declaration is a standardised document that communicates the environmental impact of a product using data generated through a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). 

Rather than making environmental claims, EPDs present verified information covering a range of environmental indicators including greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption, resource use, and waste generation. 

For consultants and contractors, EPDs are generally considered the preferred source of environmental data. 

Why are EPDs important in the construction sector?

Across the construction sector, consultants are being asked to consider embodied carbon earlier in the design process, while contractors are facing growing requirements around sustainability reporting, procurement frameworks and project compliance.  

EPDs help address these challenges by providing credible, third-party verified information that can support specification decisions and sustainability assessments.  

The growing importance of EPDs has also been reinforced by the launch of the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard verification scheme. The Standard places a significant emphasis on embodied carbon assessment and requires project teams to demonstrate the environmental performance of materials using credible, verifiable data.  

For many projects seeking verification, product-specific EPDs are now an essential source of information, helping design teams calculate embodied carbon, compare specification options and provide the evidence required to support compliance and reporting. 

As carbon measurement and disclosure become increasingly embedded within project delivery, access to verified environmental data is shifting from a desirable addition to a key part of the specification process.
